THIS is how we like to do our teen transitional room basement...


Tips 

Colour schemes - neutral is best, particularly if you don't have windows.

Where ceiling heights are low, avoid hanging pendant fixtures.  
Opt instead for built in pot lights. 

Engineered floors are better than solid lumber floors in these areas: water  
ingress is more likely to buckle solid lumber and make it 'cup'. Or choose carpet or a Karndean or Amtico type vinyl product. 

Add drama with a playful colourful rug. 

Make up for missing natural light with visual 'distractions' - create textures to add interest - here, for example, we painted the feature wall green before laying on white painted lumber with a one cm gap 'reveal'.
