HELP! Any of our peeps wanna shed some light on the best type of A/C for cottage? Fixed? Portable?

We're in the city at the moment but nervous to go back to the cottage as it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO clammy there earlier this week. Thoughts? What systems do YOU have? Successes? Failures? Any info would be greatly appreciated. At least we can strip off and jump in the lake, but our little pussy can't take his coat off. And he was definitely perturbed by the heat earlier this week.
