Luxury Minimal
We'll make a big statement here; we think this is one of our favourite home interest books EVER. Healing Hotels of The World
We LOVE books. Got SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many on shelves, in cupboards, stashed in corners etc etc etc...
But we only collect gorgeous books. Those that contain great stories.... Or those that are pictorially beautiful tomes bursting with wonderful homes or travel destinations....
And this book doesn't dissapoint. Beautifully written and accompanied by stunning photography that depicts these 'healing hotels'; destinations that help balance the mind and rest the soul. Beauutiful. Just BEAUTIFUL!

Well worry not; Canada's Capital can now breathe easily - the city now has a great home interest shopping destination and they've a wonderfully easy to operate website for those who want to shop form a different part of Canada. OMG! To say we've just emptied an LA client's design budget is an UNDERSTATEMENT!!!!
We love this shopping strip in LA. Okay, it can be pricier than some of the quarters we visit for our US clients but there is some wicked stock to plunder. Antique, modern, Mid Century, the whole lot...
We particularly love Dragonette where you'll find some droolsomely gorgeous stuff. Check out the website for further inspiration. We're SOOOO exhausted after this weeks trip (we travelled directly from NYC) but it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO worthwhile.

ABC in NYC
The stunning ABC Carpet & Home is an joyous emporium crammed full of carpets, furniture, lighting. sculpture etc... If modern, traditional, funky, eclectic, antique, gothic, is (are?) your thang you'll swoon. This is one of our favourite stores in the whole world. And boy, we've trogged the retail sector in almost every country! We spent the ENTIRE day in ABC during this weeks trip to NYC and enjoyed lunch AND dinner at the ABC Kitchen. AWESOME FOOD! Go vertical!!
Cute wee 'vertical' garden system from Myurbio - www.myurbio.com This wee wall mounted system is a great way to bring the outdoor in. Whimsical, sure, but we thought you might approve? We came across it when sourcing for a solarium in a client condo. We've maxed up by covering an ENTIRE wall using these, each compartment filled with a different succulent plant. GORGEOUS! Current issue of Architectural Digest
This has long been a favourite magazines but the current issue is especially wonderful. The cover story features Elton John and David Furnish's exciting new Los Angeles home. Perched, dramatically, on the hillside, it's an extraordinary space which was ccreated for the couple by British (but LA based) interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard. Having interviewd Bullard about a home he designed for Cher, we understand his passion and love of design.
Throughout the Bullard project, greens, blues and reds play out on a predominantly white background to stunning effect. The whole home is the perfect backdrop for a stunning collection of photography and artwork by some of the world's most acclaimed designers and artists.

Haus - stores in NYC and also Los Angeles
When helping a US blogger compile a list this week of our fave interior design stores, this company popped up again and again. We've plundered their collection for clients in NYC and LA on several occasions and we're never dissapointed. We love the simple, organic products; the imaginatively curated collection is clearly very well planned.
Check out the painted naturally shed antlers. Cute! Perfect, perhaps, as a wall detail in a cabin or cottage.

Living In Style Mountain Chalets
For the love of God, this is a stonkingly gorgeous book. We've just bought a lake side holiday home in Muskoka (a couple of hours drive from Toronto) and this design tome is providing us with some fabulous woody inspiration to refit it's every nook and cranny. From chalets to mansions and from cottages to bunkies, every droolsomely gorgeous page is laden with wonderfully arranged homes with the emphasis on relaxed glamour. Forget concrete and acres of glass; this book is all about divine wooden homes, done properly. STUNNING!!!

GREAT website!
Blimey - this is a great wee find. Crammed with inspired and simple products for the home, the premise is that the range doesn't land in regular stores. Reallly worth a look on line; there's some great kit. Clothes, jewellery and home products line up in a crafty homespun manner. Have a wee scan but make sure you confirm delivery and order times if you're gonna use this cute resource as a last minute shopping tool pre Christmas. We love this pink tea towel. We've always said; "A day without Champagne is like a day without sunshine", so we're totally on board for this product.

OMG - this is our favourite AM releases ever - volume 16. Showcasing some of the world's finest interior design talent, it's an orgy of beautifully shot design projects. Some are monochromatic, some colourful, some private, some commercial but they share one link; they're all individual and beautifully imagined.

We really LOVE this magazine. In a nutshell, it affords a nosey parker peek into some of Toronto's loveliest abodes. You'll be green with envy and there are loads of ideas to provide awesome inspiration.
In this issue you'll see all manner of condo's and houses but a particular strong point is the home of our pal Les Tomlin. It's a sky high condo with amazing outdoor space and views to die for.

Really love the unusual 'floating' nature of these aquariums. The stockist have various different styles but this is our favourite. As always, when buying anything electrical, check it all out carefully. But it's SO cute, huh? We love fish so LOOK AFTER yours properly. They're pets, after all, not accessories...

We have been fans of Kit Kemp for as long as we care to remember...

JEEEEEEEZ! This guys is a REAL hero of ours. In this sumptuous book, Alberto Pinto excels at creating a perfect harmony of volume and space by bringing fresh inspiration to established design principles. He assembles an unprecedented range of styles by merging his client’s tastes with his own flair for creativity.
With an unobstructed view of a white sandy beach and shimmering turquoise water, a sprawling apartment in the exclusive Ipanema enclave of Rio de Janeiro is decorated in subdued earth tones, punctuated by animal prints and vibrant works of modern art. West Elm - good news!
Good news? Yup, the lovely company now ship to 95 countries which means that, pretty much wherever you are, you can enjoy the wonderful range. Think Restoration Hardware (but less expensive) Habitat (from Britain) with an edgier touch and a wee spot of Pottery Barn flung in for good measure
We were in the Liberty Village branch in Toronto today specifying some lighting for a private project and were reminded just how cool a lot of West Elm stock actually is.

Blimey - clearly we have to trawl the high street on an almost daily basis to keep abreast of trends and product but there's one company who never fails to deliver - HOMESENSE. When we're in Britain we use TK Maxx (these guys are the same team) and when we're in Canada it's straght to Homesense. In the US we're never out of Marshalls - again, same company. The ranges are SO of the moment and the collections are well priced and luxurious. Nearly jumped out of our tights when we discovered these guys. You can choose paper from their catalogue designs and modify pattern, scale and colours, etc as required. Living in a Nutshell
We are very picky when it comes to recommending books - especially crafty, project led titles - but there's something absolutely dreamy about this wee tome. It's all about homes that appear larger than they are due to clever projects and intelligent decorating and it's CRAMMED full of useful ideas. A REALLY fab book that we'd strongly suggest you read!

We're careful not to recommend too many books as there are loads on the market that are pretty similar, featuring many of the same photographs over and over again. But this style guide is different. Read the amazon blurb for all the details.

WOW!!! went to this resto last night on West 3rd Street in Los Angeles and it was really EXTRA special. Wonderful curries, perhaps the best nan bread we've had to date and brilliant service into the bargain. A really authentic Indian experience in terms of style, food and decor'. Just HAVE to tell you about this amazing retaurant at Queens Quay in Toronto. We LOVE Italian food but this place is that little bit extra special. Had dinner there last night and it was SO good we've re booked for Saturday! This stunning store specialises in particularly high end product, much of which has an Italian or Scandinavian feel. We have to admit being pretty much blown away by this awesome company; with informed and very friendly staff, they've pretty much hit the nail on the designer head and are already becoming a must see stop off point for anyone in Toronto's design fraternity. Admittedly you're gonna need a second mortgage for a lot of Kiosk's merchandise... but take it from us it's absolutely worth every penny.

Dobbies Garden Centre Braehead
Though we don't have a huge garden in Glasgow, we are nevertheless proud of our wee outdoors space and always looking for good sources of inspiration and product to bring it alive. Anyway, we stumbled into Dobbies today after a trip to Ikea and have to say we were SO impressed by the company's product range and by a friendly and informed staff.
Dobbies currently have some BRILLIANT garden furniture on offer, plus one of the best outddoor planting areas we've come across in a long time. PLUS we fell in love with the aquatic centre which boasts a stuuning selection of marine, warm water and cold water fish.
And did we mention the restaurant? We don't remember garden centre food being this good! Go check it out!

Some of the furniture is a wee bit too chunky for our own tastes but it's a popular destination, nonetheless, for West Ender's who like good quality hand made design. What we like about this store is its eclectic mix of smaller accessories and lighting. Certainly worth a wee look!

Without a doubt these guys rank amongst the best suppliers of seriously cool garden furniture we've ever used. We've posted a pic of the modular chairs we've just taken delivery of and they are bang on the money. Ours are actually in creamy white (we couldn't find a pic' so we've illustrated this with the grey version) and we got loads of sections so we've put together a sofa and two loungers configuration as well as complimentary coffee and side tables.
We'd been looking for totally NON run of the mill garden furniture for our roof terrace and we have to say this company were so easy to deal with and offered speedy, friendly delivery and value for money.

Quooker Tap!
Imagine having 100 deg C water on tap at the flick of a switch! That's precisely what we've become accustomed to while filming Celebrity Masterchef for the BBC. We can't say too much about the show until nearer broadcast save to report that the taps used in the kitchen are just wonderful. They supply water at 100 degrees and cost only 3p a day - a saving of up to 55% compared to a regular kettle.
So we've tracked them down to post as a C&J Recommend. We're really impressed by the product... Easy to install and energy efficient. Check them out!

TERRONI
Quite possibly the BEST pizza's and Italian food in Toronto? Not even sure why we put a question mark at the end of that statement as the fare in Terroni's is astoundingly wonderful. We had dinner in the Queen Street West location last night with friends Shaun, Shalini and Tina and we all agreed it was awesome. This resto chain have several branches in the city but this one, at 720 QSW, is extra special. If you're heading over, expect that you'll have to line up. The wait will be SO worth it though as the scran is delicious. Beautiful surroundings, friendly staff and a great wine list all add up to a super - yet casual - night out.

This four level home design store in Toronto's East end is absolutely wonderful. Moooi and Tom Dixon feature heavily as do a host of other wickedly cool designers. Sure, it's not the city's least expensive destination, but it's SO worth a visit for brilliant inspiration. Todays BEST buy is a fourteen foot Canadian pine table with an angular black iron base and a lovely hand made feel. We spotted it in Roots on Bloor Street. Okay, so it's $2,200 (wholesale) but that's actually more than fair for a statement piece of furniture such as this. Because it's 'custom' you can upsize or downscale according to your own space and the price would adjust accordingly. The home department of Roots is small but perfectly formed and they specialise in unique one off 'vintage rural' pieces and all manner of precious country inspired benches, tables and accessories. We LOVE this jaw droppingly beautiful store. Okay, so it's not the least expensive store in Toronto but it is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful and thoughtfully merchandised. From artwork to candles and from florals to luxe upholstery we'd suggest popping by as a matter of design urgency!

Priscilla Queen Of The Desert
Priscilla Queen Of The Desert - at The Princess of Wales Theatre, Toronto. We went to the premiere tonight and witnessed a respectful stage version of the film. REALLY worth a visit and SO much better than the London version which we saw three months ago. Feathers, glamour and fun. To the max. The Toronto version, that is. NOT the London show which was a little overpowering. Thrilled it's as good as it is and we'd def' recommend that you go see it! Fetch! xx

Jacksons Upholstery in Glasgow...
In a state of mild panic (to complete a guest wing in our Glasgow home) we dashed round the city trying to find an upholsterer that could make us a deep buttoned bench using lovely Calzeet tartan. The main problem is time; we need this in a jiffy. Just as we were about to give up we found Jacksons on Argyle Street and a lovely chap called John who is making us the bench in just two short days. The price he quoted is staggeringly good and the company have the most brilliant build quality from example we were shown. DEFINITELY a top tip from us. These guys are the business!

Our own wet room problems solved...
Working on our Glasgow property we've already had wonderful success with our regular house bathrooms, but we've been struggling to find a good wet room solution for our basement bathroom. However Aqua Dec by Impey have helped us problem solve. We'll post pictures of the finished room asap!

Beautiful Verona!
If you get a chance to get over, here's our hot tourist tip. Many people say Verona is second in beauty and architecture to Rome, but we vote joint first for that particular accolade. We've just come back and have to report that this particular Italian city is VERY special. With just 260,000 residents it's not to big and not too small. Packed with wonderful galleries and awesome museums (not to mention hot shopping and wonderful terraced restaurants) this is a city we'll be returning too VERY soon. Try Jet2 as a great and affordable way of getting there.

Winnipeg!!
We like to straddle as much of Canada as we possibly can. In fact we've got one leg in Toronto and the other leg in Vancouver. And with Manitoba being half way between both, what does that leave in the middle?! Lol!
We'd defo' recommend that anyone who hasn't been gets over that way. OK, so it's flat as a pancake, but the people are lovely and there are some lovely resto's and interesting galleries etc. Weather is breezy, but that keeps the temperature down a little. We've just come back and, while it was absolutely roasting, the locals advised us that in winter it gets down to -40. Blimey... Won't be wearing the kilts when we visit next time as that chill factor could turn the Scottish boyz into laydeez. Yup, we're talking serious retraction!
So jump across to Winnipeg. Its a super friendly town with clean air and a good buzz. And more tattoos, per capita (from what we could see, certainly) than anywhere else in Canada!

Crazies
A remake of the classic 1973 thriller/horror, this is a great wee movie to grab on DVD. Great effects, good story lines and well played by all central cast.
Briefly - poison gets into the water supply of a small American town and slowly and surely the whole town goes utterly crazy, as per the title. Culminates with an end of the world style nuclear meltdown and chillingly real effects.
Kept us screaming and on the edge of our seats last night. Now go rent it and report back what you think via our forums?

INCEPTION!!!!!!
An alarmingly good sci fi thriller movie, although you'll need every ounce of concentration to keep up with the story as the gripping plot moves along. In a world where technology exists to enter the mind, Leonardo is on top form, chasing his family, as this dream invasion epic gathers pace. The CGI is astounding. Well composed, gritty and challenging, we were on the edge of our seats as the finishing line drew near. That little spinning top, without spoiling the story, is crucial so keep it in mind throughout.
And then there's the bonus of Michael Caine. We're MAJOR fans and, although his is a small role, he's a lovely character. Kind of playing the same role as he does in Batman he is a welcome addition to the narrative.
Or in other words: what a bloody brilliant film. Go book your tickets now! You WON'T be dissapointed!

Now while this may be an unusual 'C and J Recommend', it's nonetheless a relevant observation of one of the things we love! We've been guzzling Coca Cola (both regular and diet) for years, but today, as a change, we had some Pepsi. And d'you know what? It's altogether nicer. The diet version is smoother than Diet Coke and the regular variety has a much more refined flavour. So we're off the Coca Cola wagon and firmly on board as Pepsi fans! Cheers!

Awesome! Aside from the fact that the exterior of this restaurant is shockingly ugly, The Butcher Shop Bar and Grill in Glasgow is SO on the money. Featuring the best fillet steak we've had in ages, a well composed wine list and really lovely interior design, it really hit the mark. New York, New York!
OMG - New York City is the perfect getaway! Been ages since we were here... and now it's even better than before. Now that Times Square has been pedestrianised it just got better. Amazing galleries, theatres, deli's, cool bars and all manner of seriously chic people. Come on by! But Glasgow and Toronto are still our favourites!

Rush to The Rushton!
We've recently discovered a fab wee resto' called The Rushton. It's in Toronto on the junction at Rushton and St Claire. Went there last month with Gale, our editor at The Star and again this week with our good friends Cherri and David. All agreed it was really lovely. Try the Maple Syrup Prawns and the lamb shank. Great service, friendly staff and a lovely room. Enjoy!

A Great Night's TV
Jonathan Harvey's Beautiful People. Awesome! We've just watched season one and two and it's SO gorgeous. We fell in love with the simple, funny, observational story and were captivated by the time the first few scenes had played out. We reckon you'll fall in love with EVERY character. Beautifully written by Mr Harvey (whose name you'll recognise from, amongst other things, scripting Corrie) and based on the musings of Simon Doonan. Find it on Amazon. A really special wee show.
